Lead Software Engineer

 

 

 

Your new job: We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join our Software Development team on a full-time, permanent basis. Part of your role will entail working on the maintenance and upkeep of our existing software suite; however, the main bulk of your brief will be to write new service-orientated applications as we migrate away from legacy systems. The candidate should also have experience in leading teams of other engineers and upholding best practices while delivering business value. We are utilising Laravel for new systems but are always open to new technologies.

 

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Our engineers are expected to own the entire project life cycle and support from requirements gathering through to test.
  • You should be an accomplished leader and have excellent communication skills to excel in the role.
  • You will have experience of testing, refactoring and reporting and be a high-quality coder in your own right.
  • You will contribute to the architectural ideas and work with the team on implementing them.
  • You should be comfortable reviewing other engineers’ code, guide and coach them on best practices to ensure high coding standards are maintained.
  • Enjoy working from home while still be able to, sometimes, travel to the company’s physical premises.
  • Be a great engineer who writes simple, comprehensible, testable and maintainable code.
  • Be a great leader who can motivate a team of talented engineers into achieving the team and company’s goals.
  • Be willing to take on some on-call work, if required.
  • Stay up to date with new trends and technologies.
  • Attend web development workshops and conferences.

 

What are we looking for?

Core Skills:

  • PHP 5 & 7 / Git / MySQL
  • OOP and SOLID principles
  • Demonstrable experience with relevant leading frameworks (preferably Laravel)
  • Demonstrable experience in leading teams of engineers
  • Experience creating, testing and utilising APIs
  • Experience writing Unit and Functional tests
  • Experience with CI/CD
  • JavaScript / HTML / CSS

Bonus Skills:

  • SOA / microservices
  • Event-driven computing, DDD, TDD
  • NodeJS / Python
  • Docker / AWS / Google Cloud / Azure
  • FaaS using Lambda or any other provider
  • Redis / NoSQL / Elastic Search / Algolia
  • Software Design / Architecture
  • Testing / Release / Support
